Zeeks an Ass.
Naming Day, Part 1.

writebet:

Took your advice and just wrote, no editing.  I loathe giving out raw material and triple edit even my tweets usually.  Some fleshing out of the Human storyline for Tides of War.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————

For once, approaching the grand building there was not the mixed scents of unwashed masses, fried desserts, and sheer excitement.  Nothing would cover the scent of the blood shed on the stones over ages of use.  No crowds were chanting on heroes or booing the outsiders cast as villians. Not today.  She fumbled with her lottery token, chosen as one of the several hundred to witness the event.  A great honor, sure, but a mandatory one.  Kaydee shuddered as she entered the gates of the grand coliseum, remembering the details of her own Naming Day.

Still in pghsketchbet and doing silly whimsical things. and in doing that, I created Princess Chainsaw Legs: A Post Apocalyptic Lady.

The bottom sketch was the idea from a few days ago, and then I decided to do a better drawing of her tonight. So ta-da. don’t ask me the mechanics of how this works. I had a dream about a lady with chainsaw legs and so I had to draw it. I also managed to use #6 from the color palette meme. :3

I really hope she moves by just whirring the blades and rollerblading.

My Friday Challenge for #sketchbet was to draw my favorite OC in a Final Fantasy style, so here’s Chaos (and Kermit) in FFVI style, the best Final Fantasy.

Not to mention everyone wants to be a painter, writer, musician and do to that over saturation you really should only encourage those that have the motivation to work hard enough to be the best. Otherwise they waste their lives in mediocre poverty when they could be, oh, a Petroleum engineer or something useful.

Wind Waker: Exploring Dragon Roost by *CatalystSirene

Link: RinachurMedli: Hythe (Sirene)Photography by Kyle Mistry @ Katsucon ‘13.

Link:
Boots:
What is the material? It doesn’t even look like suede, let alone a suitable boot-material for adventuring
The boot is obviously not very tight around the foot, since it does not follow the general curve of the foot.
The shank (top) of the boot is loose as well
There is no edge on the sole – not super bad, but it’s weird
If Link hadn’t been kneeling, a lot of these details would have been hidden
Pants:
No official art or in-game renders to support tights vs. pants
Medieval tights should have visible seams. They were composed of 6 parts – two per leg and two for the cod piece.
Still fine, we’re just doing our job and being picky.
Tunic and hat:
Looks good!
The hat could have been unwrinkled during the posing
Props:
That’s a fine Wind Waker you have got there
Belt buckle looks odd and out of place. Could be improved if made out of resin, but it’s hard to tell from this picture.
The ears are good – well blended and a good style
Hair:
The eyebrows are obviously feminine. A bit of eyebrow pencil would be great. Link has oddly dark and very full eyebrows.
The wig should be fuller. Wind Waker Link has very poofy hair, similar to a Bieber style but longer and fluffy.
Other notes:
The makeup could have been more boyish
A less feminine pose would be better as well. The hand positions are too delicate, especially when combined with the raised and posed chin.
Medli:
Shoes/boots/claws:
Heels are inappropriate here. Medli has human feet and heels on a child are all kinds of ick.
Dress:
Please, please, please, make that dress longer. Medli and Link are both children, and we don’t want to think about children running around in short dresses.
The seam on her scarf is in the front, which is weird but not terrible. Just… rotate it towards the back or something.
Wings:
The tops of the wings, where her arms are, is made of fun fur.
The feathers look like paper with a stick down the center for stiffening.
We’re more inclined towards giving the feathers a pass since Wind Waker had a very cartoon-y style, but actual feathers would have been better.
We feel the wings should extend from the shoulders, not part way down the bicep. It’s hard to find reference pictures either way, but it makes the most sense considering birds.
Other notes:
The beak-nose could have been a bit more angular
The hair needs less side bangs and more tucked behind the ears.
Headband looks good, but it could sit higher
Overall: Two good cosplays, but there is room for improvement. Remember what age your characters are and have that reflect in their poses and costumes. The short skirt and heels will haunt this critic for a while.

Aww look, someone being “helpful” by throwing out unwanted “critique” into the Tumblr void. Yes, void. Notice how nobody fucking cares? Did you inform these cosplayers and photographer that you are using them as an example? Seems silly if not. You’re not really helping them unless you also left this as a critique on their DA. Or is this only to use cosplayers people really like as “examples” to build up your own confidence?

What is the material? It doesn’t even look like suede, let alone a suitable boot-material for adventuring

The boot is obviously not very tight around the foot, since it does not follow the general curve of the foot.

Way to go there captain obvious. Like they can’t look at their bootcover and know it’s too loose. Bootcovers that aren’t stretchy are difficult. You could have at least offered advice on how to pattern and piece these things together out of a fabric “suitable for adventuring”. As it is, you’re just pointing out the obvious. You also ask the Tumblr void what the material is instead of the cosplayer? So helpful.

No official art or in-game renders to support tights vs. pants

Medieval tights should have visible seams. They were composed of 6 parts – two per leg and two for the cod piece.

Still fine, we’re just doing our job and being picky.

You say there’s no official art or in game renders to support pants or tights either way and yet you suggest they make 6-part-period-accurate tights for a TOON LINK COSTUME? This makes absolutely no sense. Cosplay is a costume reproduction hobby for sure but the art shows no seams. The tights make sense here. Also, Link does not live in any real time period. To inject period-accurate nonsense would take this design further from looking like it does in the artwork. This type of stuff belongs with smelly nerds LARPing in their crushed velvet Folklore patterned outfits around a campground and not in making a deceivingly simple cartoon costume that has like, zero visible seams. There’s a place for 6-piece tight pant things and it’s not in this costume.
You sound like you’re talking out of your ass. Your job? lol Okay. You don’t even post your credentials which, from this critique would be dubious at best IMHO.

The shank (top) of the boot is loose as well

Okay you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about and are banking on cosplayers not knowing terminology. The top of the boot is not the shank. The shank is actually as far from the top of the boot as you get. It’s the part that runs from the heel to the outsole and sits under the arch. It adds structure and support to the bottom of the shoe and varies in size depending on the boot’s use. The top of the boot is just called the “upper” just an FYI.

The wig should be fuller. Wind Waker Link has very poofy hair, similar to a Bieber style but longer and fluffy.

Okay let me get this straight. She should make 6-piece tights to make it as realistic as possible but have big fluffy yellow hair to make it as cartoony as possible? Which is it? Realistic or cartoony?

The makeup could have been more boyish.

At least offer tips how to make it more boyish if this is your opinion.

heels on a child are all kinds of ick.

It’s one thing if the shoes are inaccurate, it’s another to just inject your opinion this way. So helpful.

Please, please, please, make that dress longer. Medli and Link are both children, and we don’t want to think about children running around in short dresses.

These designs are bizarrly proportioned to adult-sizes and have been interpreted in various ways. I’m sure if they would have stretched it out to be longer you’d have taken issue with that as well. It doesn’t seem to be done to sex-up the character. I don’t get the “ick” feeling from this at all.

The fur is a common way to do cartoonish wings in in the anthro costuming community which is probably where they pulled it from. It looks okay as down feathers and allows her room for her arms. IMHO it looks softer and thicker than “fun fur” which is really light and thin and gross looking.
Some people don’t like using real feathers. Ethical reasons, practicality reasons, budget reasons… making your own from felt, fur, foam or paper is en vogue right now.
Oh no they didn’t interpret this fantasy world in the way you feel they should have. They should certainly strive to please you with your awesome credentials and stuff.

The beak-nose could have been a bit more angular

The hair needs less side bangs and more tucked behind the ears.

Headband looks good, but it could sit higher

Nitpicking.
This whole blog doesn’t sit well with me at all. Anonymous, insecure know-it-alls being nitpicky under the white hat of virtue. If anyone points out the things wrong with this blog they can claim “I don’t know why anyone would be offended or humiliated, we’re just trying to be helpful and everyone should care about being as perfect in our eyes as possible!” Pfff. What a waste of time. At least make it a submission only blog and put your own stuff out there so people can judge if your opinions are even worth their time. I’d rather go to my friends or an open thread on a forum where I can get real feedback rather than some anonymous tumblr blog. At least my friends don’t misuse garment terms to try and sound more knowledgeable than they are. This whole thing is so silly and not very helpful.

Reblogging for Patches’ A+ critique of the “critics.” lol
And the cosplayers in question were NOT asked and were kind of uhhhh about the whole thing, lol.

The responses to this critique are well done and totally appropriate given the ridiculous nature of the original post and the “critics” total lack of understanding of what an appropriate critique is. .
I wanted to add that one of the “critics” is tumblr user http://astrosmusings.tumblr.com/  Their deviantart is http://astro-kid-248.deviantart.com/gallery/
Please feel free to critique away.

I’m actually not. I’m just a friend who they’re using for contacting when someone doesn’t have an anonymous ask box. But go ahead and burn me at the stake, even though this wasn’t my idea. Thanks a lot.

Hey man, no offense, but if you weren’t willing to associate yourself with the jackassery that these people were taking part in, then you probably should have declined when they asked you to be their go to guy.  You chose to associate yourself with this, so you get the heat for it.  There is no one else that we can find associated with the bullying that is happening on this blog, mostly because they chose not to put their personal information up on their own tumblr, which seems kind of cowardly to me.  So unless you are going to pony up some other people to take some of the heat, this is all on you.  You did this to yourself by choosing to take part in their blog.  If it wasn’t your idea and you didn’t condone what they were doing, then you should have had a spine and told them no.

Because it was so very brave of you to stand behind huzzah and let her be the one to point the finger? And I didn’t say I don’t condone it, I just said it wasn’t my idea. I’m willing to help because they’re helping with rent. It’s what friends do. And it doesn’t look like bullying to me. It looks like they just picked a costume at random and pointed out what they perceive is incorrect about it. Given how completely you guys are attacking me, I can see why they didn’t post their information. I’m starting to question associating myself with such a hateful community. You guys are literally attacking me and my friends because they have a different opinion, and want to help people who have similar opinions to their own. They changed the freaking post for you guys! And they’ll probably change again when they get back from classes. Hell, I’m letting them critique my Link once they get up and running.

Wait wait wait…so you and your friends (yes you, you are obviously part of this as their mouthpiece) run an anonymous blog where you “critique” (poorly I might add) random cosplayers (these are not “like minded people”) and you’re calling those who think you and your friends are being a big bag of dicks the bad guys? The people who are openly standing up against this bullshittery are “hateful” and the people hiding behind the wall of anonymous and acting superior are “helpful”  lol okay.
You certainly do need to question who you associate with.

Alright, you win. I just talked with them, and they gave me permission to delete the blog. It will be gone by 4 pm at the latest. Give yourselves a pat on the back. Oh, and pat yourselves on the back for finally convincing me to stop wasting my time and money on something I used to genuinely enjoy. And learn to read while you’re at it, because everything you’re saying about the blog is patently wrong, although it doesn’t matter anymore.
You are all bullies. Hateful bullies who refuse to accept that people have fun in different ways than you. But I wish no ill will upon you, because really, I don’t know you at all. I don’t know your situation, as you don’t know mine. I wish you all much success and happiness with your own cosplays in the future.
I’m deleting all the other posts on my blog associated with this. I’ll ask you to do the same, so we can put this behind us.

Naw I stand by what I said. No need for me to prune my blog.  And that’s not being a bully. That’s just well…standing by what I think is ethical. I am fine being on “record” for everything I posted. I’m certainly not going to get rid of it because you suddenly are repentant.
I’m sorry you have such an insular, skewed view of the hobby and clearly need new friends. Nobody is bullying you. You’d certainly know if I were.
But it’s the thing to jump to the “internet bully” stuff when someone calls you out on your shit nowadays. You keep trying to turn the blame on anyone but yourselves.
If I were to have posted your costume or artwork on my blog and tore it apart in all the ways I think it is wrong under the guise of “critique” and given it only backhanded compliments otherwise well…that would be more akin to bullying IMHO. P:
I’m not saying to go kill yourself, just stop being and helping people be knobgoblins. Don’t be ridiculous.
Oh wait, this is Tumblr. Carry on being ridiculous.

Man kids these days. In my day, bullying was when you got spat on, had your hair pulled, gum mashed in, shoved, pushed, called every derogatory name in the book, told to kill yourself, ignored, and a fuck ton worse all for just EXISTING, not for starting up a dumbshit anon blog tearing other people down without their permission and expecting everyone to be asspatting you about it… and then, continuing to be defensive when NUMEROUS people expressed discomfort rather than taking that into consideration mayyybe we might wanna rethink how we do things…Basically, you can blame other people all you want, but in the end YOU are responsible for what YOU do. If you really want to be a positive force, there are a billion ways you can do that, most of them are not going to get you ~tumblr famous~, however. But it’s worth it to reach out and give a hand where you aren’t going to get praise or reblogs just because you genuinely want to help make someone else smile. But then again I’m just a bully so WHAT DO I KNOW.

It should be pointed out that this picture is adorable. Seriously.

Prolly nkt but you could import them in from a random folder. You would have to do this for every new file though.
